With a great turn-out and inspiring contributions by Christian Kicken and Arjan Nijk, we kicked off the SYMPOSIUM series!

The first SYMPOSIUM meeting was held Monday 1 February 2021 and was attended by 16 junior researchers (PhD and PD) from the OIKOS/Anchoring Innovation team.

Christian Kicken (PhD researcher, RU) discussed a writing sample on Roman roads and the status questionis of its academic research with the participants, which brought him food for thought about the smaller details (pre-Roman or non-Roman?) and the bigger questions (what is a road and what is Roman, exactly?) of his paper.

Arjan Nijk (PD researcher, VU) presented the methodological approach to his new research plan on iconicity in Homer, divulging both the excitement and disappointment that comes with doing research in general and writing this specific research proposal in particular. The discussion that followed his presentation left him with new suggestions and questions to ponder.

It is safe to say that the first SYMPOSIUM meeting was a great success, thanks to both contributors and to everyone who attended.

Next meeting: 1 March 2021, 15:30-17:00 (online).
