How did ancient Greek audiences make sense of – respond to, relate to, process, parse, visualize, disambiguate, puzzle at, get affected by – the sometimes extremely challenging pieces of poetic language that occur across several performance genres? This workshop brings together classicists and experts in other areas (psychology, linguistics, a theatre practitioner) to explore these issues from different perspectives with a focus on the parodos of the Agamemnon. There will be panels on complexity, neologisms, religion, ambiguity, intertextuality/intervisuality, performance, and sound.
The workshop is part of Work Package 7 of Anchoring Innovation. The full programme can be found at: https://www.classicsconferences-groningen.nl/programme
